About the course
Refine your drawing practice in the Tuscan landscape under the guidance of acclaimed artist Giacomina Ferrillo. This immersive six-day program invites participants to study and depict the region’s rich plant life, from fragile wildflowers to the centuries-old Seggianese olive trees, through a blend of classical and modern botanical illustration methods.
Each day includes guided sketching sessions set across gardens, vineyards, Mount Amiata, and the surrounding countryside. Students will strengthen their observational abilities while learning to translate natural forms onto the page with both precision and expressive detail. Ferrillo offers focused instruction on composition, line, tonal work, and the use of color, supporting each participant in developing their own visual language.
In addition to studio practice, the course incorporates curated outings throughout the region. These may include a visit to the village of Seggiano, an excursion to the internationally celebrated Spoerri Garden, founded by artist Daniel Spoerri, and, for those interested, a local wine tasting experience.
The program welcomes all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned illustrators seeking to expand their approach. Alongside practical work, participants will engage with materials, techniques, and the historical context of botanical art, creating a comprehensive and enriching experience. Whether your aim is to advance your technical skill or simply to spend time drawing in one of Italy’s most captivating settings, this course offers a balanced combination of study and enjoyment.
